Benefits of Goal-Setting

It’s easy to get caught up in our daily routines: letting weeks turn into months, months turn into years. Before you know it, you’ve not fulfilled any of your lifelong dreams of travel, owning your own home or starting a business.

 

Goals can help us clarify what’s important to us, identify our values and determine how best to spend the precious time we have on this planet.

 

Coming up with goals and writing them down may seem like a pointless exercise but, apart from gaining a sense of direction, setting goals has many other benefits…

 

Becoming more self-aware. Identifying your strengths and weaknesses is an important part of future planning. If you set yourself a goal, you must consider your strengths to find the best way to achieve it.

 

Feeling more self-reliant. Having a sense of victory or accomplishment of past goals, thereby making you feel confident and competent (even when dealing with unexpected or difficult situations).

 

Improving self-esteem. When you measure and monitor your progress towards your goal, you will feel proud of yourself for working towards your goal.

 

Breaking your boundaries. Helping you grow. Goals challenge your comfort zones and motivate you to develop your personal skills.

 

Helping you prioritize. If you have goals, you focus on the things you want to achieve and avoid getting distracted by less important and possibly time-consuming aspects of life.

 

You don’t have to wait until the beginning of a year to set personal goals. We recommend setting goals when you’re feeling inspired to do so. You can follow our tips on setting SMART goals and track the goals on a quarterly basis to adjust and course-correct as needed.
